Join the Young Producers

Become a Young Producer at English Heritage

Do you have a passion for raising young people’s voices to influence change?

Would you like to help influence the way England’s histories are told and shared with audiences?

Does meeting other young people, building skills and experience that could be used in a variety of sectors sound like a great use of your time?

“At first, I wasn’t sure what heritage meant to me, but exploring the diverse histories of the people and places around me has helped me in my own journey of figuring out what my place is in the world”.

We are currently recruiting young people to join our Young Producers from April 2024. If you would like to play a key role in youth engagement at English Heritage, we’d love to hear from you!

What’s involved in being a Young Producer?

As a Young Producer, there is a lot to be involved in! The programme is varied but flexible to suit your availability and interests; we realise that volunteering alongside other responsibilities is a significant commitment and we will work with you to ensure a reasonable balance of participation.

We’re looking for a minimum of a one year commitment, with the option of continuing on for a second year if you’d like.

You’ll take part in monthly online meetings which take place on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings at 5.30 – 7.00pm. The first of these meetings will be on Tuesday 30th April 2024. In these meetings you’ll meet English Heritage staff, learn about how the organisation works and share your thoughts and opinions on upcoming plans and projects.

You’ll take part in various projects which could range from being involved in the creation of new exhibitions and creating online content for our social media channels to historical research and influencing the visitor experience at our sites.

It is important that you can attend the monthly meetings, contribute to projects and participate in training opportunities. On average you might spend about 5 hours per month taking part in Young Producer activities, but it will vary depending on your participation in activities beyond the monthly meetings.

The Young Producer role is one of English Heritage’s volunteer roles, and expenses such as travel to attend events/ meet ups will be covered.

Three of our recent Young Producers have shared what it’s like to be part of the programme, have a read here!

If you’d like to be a Young Producer but have specific questions about the time commitment and your availability, please email kerina.evans@english-heritage.org.uk .

“I absolutely loved being part of Shout Out Loud to the point where I don’t want to ever leave! I always felt included and that my opinion mattered.”
