Reverberate

Shout Out Loud’s Reverberate programme supported grassroots organisations to run small, locally-based projects that enabled and empowered young people to re-discover, re-imagine and re-create their local heritage through creativity. The panel discussion that took place on day one of the summit shared the stories explored through the programme, and featured speakers and a performance from We Make Culture’s young people.

One of the Reverberate projects was We Make Culture’s ‘Lasses and Lyrics’ programme which supported young women musicians to uncover forgotten stories of women in their local area of Sunderland; encouraging them to write, perform and record original songs based on these local histories.

Ami McGuinness and Paige Smith, two of the participants from this project, talked at the summit about their experiences and the music that they produced. We were then treated to a beautiful performance by Ami of her song, ‘Nightingale’. Click here to listen to the songs.
