Youth Summit 2022
In June, Shout Out Loud hosted our A new heritage youth summit at Wrest Park. Over two days we celebrated all of the great work done by young people and heritage organisations over the past four years as part of The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Kick the Dust initiative.
We got to hear from lots of incredible people who have all been part of Kick the Dust, including talks from staff at English Heritage, panel discussions with Shout Out Loud’s Young Producers, performances from the National Youth Theatre, and plenty more!

Shout Out Loud Panel Talks
Over both days of the summit, we had panel discussions with young people from the Shout Out Loud project to discuss their experiences, the value of youth participation, and their hopes for the future of the project.
We Are Louder Together!
This talk went back to the beginning to share how Shout Out Loud began. From the application to the Kick the Dust fund, to recruiting the Young Producers team, to putting on this event; this talk revealed the Shout Out Loud journey in full.
Head of Learning and Interpretation, Dominique Bouchard, and Head of Grants and Trusts, Sonja Lahiff, talked with Young Producers, Sophie Anstee de Mas, and Sam Adams all about their experiences and value of being part of the project.
Our Voice: Make your History Count - Young Producers
This panel discussion featured Young Producers who have all been involved in Shout Out Loud. Hosted by Hannah Keddie, Learning Manager at English Heritage, it delved into their experiences, discussing the impact of the programme and why they thought it had been so successful. Young Producers Megan, Janie, Sophie, and Sam also talked about what they hoped for the future and made suggestions as to what other organisations could consider as they develop their own youth-focused programmes.
Our Voice: Make your History Count - Placements
This panel discussion featured Youth Placements who have all worked with Shout Out Loud. Also hosted by Hannah Keddie, it dealt with their experiences, discussing the impact the programme has had on their personal and professional development and why they thought the placement programme had been so successful. Featuring some of the digital placements, Chloe, Imogen, and Jayda, they also talked about what they hoped for the future and made suggestions as to what other organisations could consider as they develop their own youth-focused programmes.
The Future for English Heritage
What’s next for youth engagement and heritage? Head of Grants and Trusts, Sonja Lahiff, closed the summit with a short talk on what the future looked like for Youth Engagement at English Heritage. She announced that English Heritage has committed to funding the continuation of Shout Out Loud beyond National Lottery funding.

Event Blog
One of our digital placements, Chloe, wrote a blog all about her time at the summit and the experiences, as a young person, of being a part of Shout Out Loud. Click here to give it a read.
